Sunday 18th July 2021

This morning's worship is being led by Mary.

Welcome to another online service, have you ever read Psalms 119, with 176 verses it is the longest Psalm as well as the longest chapter in the Bible. It is an acrostic poem, in which each set of eight verses begins with a letter of the Hebrew alphabet. The Chapter is about God’s word and how it is integral to our daily living. I would encourage you to read the whole chapter. It is a road map for the trials and blessings we have in life, an A-Z guide most definitely of the Hebrew alphabet, and instruction to look to God for help in times of trouble.

Dear God we thank you for your word the bible for your guidance and unending love. We thank you for Jesus your Son who became man and set an example of how we should live our lives.  We thank you for His ministry, the shed blood, the death and resurrection. We thank you for the power of the Holy Spirit that dwells within us. We thank you for a heart to praise you and lift up your name in adoration.  Amen

The overall message of Psalm 119 focuses on the truth of God’s Word.  It encourages us through every generation to stay close and focused on His Word no matter what swirls around us in this world. Living in the freedom and knowledge of God’s ways, obeying His law above all else, and keeping in step with His commandments is the only way to truly live wise, strong lives.

God’s Word is powerful, living, and active. It never changes, because He never changes. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. His words are breathed straight from His heart to us, a love letter for life, not simply an old-fashioned, outdated book with no relevance for today. His Word is sharper than any two-edged sword.

God's very character is reflected through His Word, He is Righteous, He is Faithful, He is Unchanging, and He is True.  We are "blessed" as we walk in His Truth, and seek him with our whole heart.

Some well known verses in this chapter

Thank you for the great richness and Truth of Your Word. Thank you that your word is a light for our path, a lamp to our feet, that gives direction for our days. May our lives be faithful to living each day according to your ways. Help us to love your words, to hide them within our hearts. Open our eyes that we might see your deep and hidden treasures, and know you more and more. Help us to run in the path of your commands, thank you that you set our hearts free...In Jesus' Name, Amen.

You brought this sinner near to your throne; and clothed me in royal robes I don’t deserve. Thank you for your love for me, thank you for dying on the cross for me, you took all my sin and filthy rags and replaced them with a royal robe. Thank you Jesus, my Saviour.  Amen

Priscilla Shirer - You go through more because you’re called to more

God promises to love and care for his people; we promise to love and obey him. He steadfastly fulfils his promise; we frequently fail. But God always remains faithful.

Jude vs 17-25
17 But you, my dear friends, must remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ predicted. 18 They told you that in the last times there would be scoffers whose purpose in life is to satisfy their ungodly desires. 19 These people are the ones who are creating divisions among you. They follow their natural instincts because they do not have God’s Spirit in them.
20 But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit, 21 and await the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will bring you eternal life. In this way, you will keep yourselves safe in God’s love.
22 And you must show mercy to those whose faith is wavering. 23 Rescue others by snatching them from the flames of judgment. Show mercy to still others, but do so with great caution, hating the sins that contaminate their lives.

24 Now all glory to God, who is able to keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into his glorious presence without a single fault. 25 All glory to him who alone is God, our Saviour through Jesus Christ our Lord. All glory, majesty, power, and authority are his before all time, and in the present, and beyond all time! Amen.
